The first reviews for Larian Studios’ fantasy RPG are positive.
Baldur’s Gate 3 has been able to surpass The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom as the game with the highest rating in 2023, according to Metacritic. At the time of writing, Larian Studios’ Dungeons and Dragons Fantasy RPG currently have a rating of 97, according to the site that aggregates reviews which is just a little bit ahead by one point more than Tears of the Kingdom’s 96. It’s likely that this will be a bit more fluid in the coming days as more review sites release their reviews. This is yet another example of positive feedback about the game.
For perspective, Baldur’s Gate 3 is likely to receive additional reviews that will affect its score over the next few days because reviews ( kotaku ) were only granted access to reviews a couple of days prior to the game’s launch on PC on the 3rd of August. The game is extremely complex and quite long.
My first game took approximately 55 hours, and that’s not taking into account how long I spent trying out encounters that weren’t reflected by the in-game clock. So, many reviewers aren’t yet finished and aren’t yet able to give the game an official score or decision. As of now, having its 14 initial reviews, including a few that have given the Baldur’s Gate game a high five out of five or 10/10 score, the weighted average of its current release is higher than any other game launched this year.

At the very least, I’m pretty happy with the things Larian Studios has accomplished with Baldur’s Gate 3 Also. kotaku doesn’t provide scored reviews, So our Review will not affect this game’s Metacritic position. However, it’s not impossible to see the merits of the game holding the top spot on Metacritic, even when it’s not the last.
This is especially true when the majority of the top-scoring games this year were remakes or remakes. We, as well as most reviewers, believe that review scores can be detrimental to the process of reviewing.
